Lisbeth Salander

Author: Stieg Larsson

Lisbeth Salander is the fictional character that is the star of the Millenium Series, written by Stieg Larsson from 2005 to 2007. In the debut novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, readers were astonished by this character’s bravery while becoming acquainted with her unusual behavior. Her illegal actions in conjunction with her incredible self-honed abilities for hacking are at odds with her anti-social behavior.

Throughout the three novels, Larsson delves further into Lisbeth’s past, revealing a father who was rarely present; at those times he was in the home he was typically abusing Lisbeth’s mother. Taking place in Sweden, Lisbeth’s home nation, the reader slowly learns of her twin sister, with whom Lisbeth has no contact, and her mother, who dies in a nursing home during the story line. The plot of the three novels take place with little time between. During the quickly moving story, Larsson introduces a number of memorable characters, most notably Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist who takes a personal interest in Lisbeth and her life’s turmoil.

Unfortunately, Stieg Larsson passed away in 2004 before writing a fourth addition to the Millenium Series.
